podcast 006: crazy bitch request tequila bookworm live set by nathan lee from april 23, 2010
This entire set was hijacked by some loon who clearly knew nothing about music because I was generous enough to actually play most (if not everything, in fact) that she asked for and yet she still found a reason to bitch about the music. In other words, I don't think she actually knew any of the bands she was requesting.
Queen buzz band doesn't actually listen to music, she just listens to other people talk about it. Brilliant! And this, of course, leads to the new People Downtown policy at our Tequila Monthly: no fucking requests!
Here's the completely patchwork and terrifically stress inducing set:
- Freeform Five vs Gorillaz - No Good Conversation 2006
- MSTRKRFT - Heartbreaker (Joachim Garraud Club Vocal Mix) 2009
- Vitalic - Chicken Lady 2009
- Rockers Hi-Fi - Push Push (Rainer Weichhold Birthday Remix) 2009
- Trentemøller / Kings Of Leon - Rykketid / Milk (Sander Kleinenberg Mashup) 2005
- Crystal Castles - Celestica 2010
- Cassius - Rock Number One (Kim Remix) 2007
- Metric - Monster Hospital (MSTRKRFT Remix) 2006
- MGMT - Kids 2007
- Amen Andrews - Babylon (STFU you crazy bitch drum'n'bass edit) 2003
- Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart 1979
- Simple Minds - Don't You (Forget About Me) 1985
Much to my dismay I also later played some Hot Chip which got really bad. The intro piano from Drums Of Death's One Life Stand Remix over Justus Köhncke’s Baking Horse Over and Over Club Mix was amusing, but the rest of that Drums of Death remix is beyond lame.
Finally, there was some Listomania madness in there that Qasim and I tag teamed.
So let's add this up. Requested:
Kings of Leon (including a followup, "I asked you to play Kings of Leon")
Metric
MGMT (so unnecessary!)
Phoenix
Hot Chip
Played? ALL OF THE ABOVE!
All of this, of course, ended with: "You really need to play some songs with vocals."
Songs without vocals? ZERO!
And now back to our regular programming...
